Yamas – Winston Salem, NC

Trying new restaurants is our thing. We were thrilled to test the menu at Yamas in downtown Winston Salem and report back it’s well worth a visit. I’d even venture to say its worth a drive from out of town. Why you ask, the staff is customer-focused and polite. The ingredients are made fresh daily. The prices are fantastic for the amount of food you receive. And, they have an iced tea bar?!

Meredith: I wanted to test their true, Greek authenticity and opted for the Traditional Gyro. Lamb is a must in a Greek restaurant. From the thinly shaved meat to the crispy shoe string fries it was perfection. 2 scoops of tzaziki sauce gives it a fresh taste. The pita bread is light and soft. Even after eating the whole thing (it was larger than my hand) I didn’t feel overly full. 5 out of 5.

Brian: I had the build your own bowl – half grain half salad, (delicious lemon basmati rice and fresh spinach) as my base. You can choose up to 3 spreads/dips. I chose the classic tzaziki sauce, an amazing white chocolate baba ganoush, and tasty harissa yogurt. For my protein I had to get the fresh off the grill chicken souvlaki. I topped it off with feta, red onions, tonatoes, and a surprisingly good mandarin cranberry cous cous. I also added a side of fruit. I created a culinary masterpiece! The flavors came together so seamlessly with each bite. The bowl is huge, they scoop your selections generously, and my hunger was satisfied. 4.5 out of 5.

Our 3 year old son had the kid’s version gyro. He had the chicken with feta and tzaziki. It came with a side of fries. I can’t forget the double chocolate cookie we all fought to share. It was delicious. He’s not the best at trying new and unknown but he really liked it! If a kid likes it you’re doing something right.

The service is excellent. From the welcoming greeting of “Yamas!” to each customer that enters the door, through your food selections served with a smile, to the friendly employee stationed in the dining area cleaning as soon as guests leave. This place is run like a well oiled machine and the food is fresh and very appetizing.

We were very pleased and can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu. Thank you for letting us experience a taste of Greece in our own backyard.
