Waiting in lines is usually not at the top of my list when we are on vacation but when accompanied by piping hot hush puppies you won’t find me complaining in the sluggish Charleston heat.
Hyman’s Seafood has been around longer than I’ve been alive. After one meal I can understand why. Be prepared to wait in line during your visit. You will sit sat a table that was adorned by celebrities and debutants and rock stars alike.
The menu is expansive. There are multiple choices for the daily catch with equally as many choices for preparation. Most of the local hotels have coupons for a free appetizer (not all are included) or free dessert.
We opted for the Crab Dip as our freebie. This was our only disappointment. It had a mixture with horse radish. Not your typical cheesy, melty crab dip. It was actually served cold instead of piping hot from the oven.
The entree selections were nothing short of amazing. Brian had the well known Southern dish; Shrimp and Grits while I tried one of the daily catches; Salmon. I opted for the grilled salmon with a bourbon glaze. We ordered the kids quesadilla and fries for Bryson. He devoured the hush puppies. Seriously, best hush puppies I’ve ever had. The Shrimp and Grits dish was just as you’d expect in the South. Full of large butterfly shrimp cooked to perfection. The grits were thick and creamy. My salmon was possibly the best tasting salmon I have ever tried. It was also huge. Accompanied by large steak fries and more hush puppies, I was overly pleased.
We had great service. Our waitress was available the entire time. One of the managers came over to check on us prior to the meal being served. He gave Bryson a free popcorn for after dinner.
We had a great experience and would absolutely return. Even with a long wait!
